Hand me down beauty...

And never can hand me downs be more beautiful than when you use them to create something new. So when I took all my cast off corners from another quilt (read about it here if you missed it) and started to make another doll quilt, I was having fun creating something around these tiny little one inch half square triangles.

I wanted to give it a very old look so created something to look like a cutter quilt. And as I was hand quilting it, I thought I must call it 'The Hand Me Down' quilt.

This doll quilt measures 10-1/2 x 15 inches. It was machine pieced and hand quilted.

I am starting a little series of surprise giveaways. I am not announcing that I am doing a giveaway but picking a name from a previous entry. I have been having fun creating some handmade items to give as gifts to my readers. I love reading your comments and want to thank you in this way. I went back to the entry where I showed this patchwork and the random number generator came up with comment 17. I had made a scissor fob around this beautiful glass bead with flowers in it. The charm is a hand bag in honor of my hand me down quilt. The winner is Carolien. It will be on its way to you soon or you could come over and play? *wink* (Carolien lives in the same city as me and we get together to stitch or quilt.)

Thank you so very much to everyone who stops in to say hello to me here. I appreciate all of you so very much! Sharing my passion for needle and thread with you is a joy.

O dear, my dear Heidi, now this really is a surprise! I am speechless. You are spoiling me again! I don't know where to look ... Jeetje! How sweet of you. I love that fob, that's for sure, it's a cutie with that little bag and the beautiful beads. I also love the match with that lovelt doll quilt, such a nice story. Thank you very, very much!
I hope to come over soon, so you really needn't send it to me. I am just waiting a little because I don't want you to have that cold as well.
My, my, what a day!
Thanks, dear friend & warm hugs,
Carolien

A very lovely finish Heidi. I always check the scrap buckets when we finish our quilting groups and your little quilt is the reason why. Looking for the little treasures that others leave behind.

I love that little quilt! Your choice of colors is perfect, although I suppose they chose you, and not the other way around, since most were scraps from another project.

Aww Heidi, what a lovely thought! Congrats to Carolien!

Your Hand Me Down quiltlet is fabulous, of course. Did I tell youI'm getting quite handy with the sewing machine? Could there be a quilt in *my* future, do you think?

Lovely fob! I was looking for your Centennial Sampler, so I am off to find it. I saw it on Saskia's site. I have this book and need to try to begin working on mine. I see Judie every year in Sept. and she always has this quilt hanging. It's lovely. I'd say it's about 4ft X 5ft, if I remember correctly. XO

Heidi, i think this doll quilt is my all time favourite. Firstly, i just love the colour combinations and secondly, i love the way it was created out of little left over bits. it's so inspiring to think that even tiny little pieces of fabric have their very important place in the stitching world. It's thriftiness in it's prettiest form :>)
Congratulations to Carolian on winning the pretty fob. The little charm is really pretty. Being able to give it to her personally makes it extra enjoyable :>)
Warm wishes Angela xx
