Happiness is a warm poncho!

It is pretty chilly here in Holland so that is my motto for the coming weekend. Why is because I finished my granny stripe poncho early this week...

Oops! I see that I did not straighten it out when I laid it down to take a photo. Oh well...crooked or not, I love it and it keeps me warm. I was inspired by Hazel when she shared this pattern on Le Monde de Sucrette's blog. I loved it and thought why does it have to just be for kids??? Why indeed as I have now seen more granny stripe ponchos in blogland.

I was able to make mine for a super bargain price as it cost well under 5 euros for the yarn and I have a good deal left too. I used a 4.5cm crochet hook and started with a 112 chain stitches for my multiple of 8 which ended up being 14 granny square clusters to start. I finished it off with a row of single crochets around the neck and a shell edging along the bottom.

My mother says I had one of these same ponchos made by my grandmother as a little girl. Unfortunately, she cannot find a photo but I guess this is proof that I am still a little girl...right mother? *grins*

So I will be keeping warm with my poncho. You just have to be warm and happy in a poncho! My weekend will be busy working on my latest cat sampler. What about yours?

Have a happy and creative weekend with needle and thread!

It certainly looks warm what an accomplishment to have made it all with your hook and yarn.

Wow, you did a great job making this poncho. I went through all of our old slides trying to find a picture for you, but didn't find one. boo hoo.
Have fun at the cottage and take a new project, or better yet, go yarn shopping.
Love you, Mom

I confess, I dreamed about a poncho for years and cheated this week. I bought a warm brown one (€12). Didn't have the time to make one myself!

What a pretty poncho. I love the colors. I'm always freezing when everyone else is hot. Maybe I will give one a try.

Heidi het doet me ook meteen denken aan mijn poncho in de jaren zeventig. Groen, rood en wit, maar ik heb er ook geen foto van.
Hij staat je leuk en wat een koopje.
Fijn weekend, groetjes

Your poncho is beautiful! My it brings back memories of when I was a little girl too! My grandmother made them for me as well...a white one as I recall for Sunday's and dressy occasions and a darker color like red or orange for school days. I always had her put tassels on mine by the neckline, a V shape, so I could tie it....but the truth of it is I loved to play with the tiny balls...grins...enjoy your poncho and stay warm. Here in CA. it will be over a hundred so a poncho I will not wear yet...but we will be celebrating my dad's 81st birthday and I plan to stitch on my sampler that I am almost finished with...Home is where your flowers grow... by CCN! Have a great weekend and hugs from CA.

I really like your poncho! I have a couple I like to wear, a green knit one, and a brown woven one that's dressier, both that I found at the thrift store. You are right, they are cozy and warm!

You found the perfect length for your poncho. Enough to stay warm but your hands are still sufficiently free to do what you need to do. I used to love wearing ponchos - I think I need to try it again!

at this time it's lovely outside, even warm... so I'm not sure if you're really wearing this cute poncho!
It's a nice idea, though I think I'm not a poncho 'girl'. You're really hooked, aren't you?
