Farmer's life.....

It is the first Wednesday of the month once again. The month passes so quickly and it is time again for my quilt group to come this evening. The blocks for this month are done and the newsletter printed. These are the four blocks for May.....

And this is my quilt top as far as I have it together today. I have the next row ready to sew together and only need one more block to complete this top. I am going to then work on the red blocks for my mother's quilt top. I like having the top with 25 blocks which is the perfect square quilt for a wallhanging.

Isn't this painting by Alfred Roll beautiful? I know life on a farm is not romantic as we might think. It is just plain hard work but the office is the beautiful countryside. It seems a more natural place for a human to be than cooped up on the fourth floor (I asked Jos what floor he is working on in his building...grins) looking out at other buildings. Hearing the birds sing and the trees rustle as opposed to air condition humming in the background. A life where your bread and butter literally depends on your getting up in the morning and working hard. But then you can sit in the evening and look at the countryside that you are custodian of.

For now, I must be content with my patch of garden and my quilt top...

Well gee, my farm is not very hard to work on at all. Ask Carolien and Sonja, they can tell you. You just click with your fingers. We even fly from England to American with a couple clicks.
Now, maybe that is why Jos wants to work from your studio and not his tower office. He is closer to nature.
(Maybe you too tee hee).
Have a great night, the quilt is really pretty but, my red one will be EVEN better. LOL.
I loveeeeeee you,
Mom

Loved your blog entry on farm life...so often I wish for the simple days I once knew, but striving to be more like my Daddy and be content whatever my lot may be. Your quilt could not be more beautiful...you are a talented needle-woman! Rowena

Your quilt is beautiful. I love the colors. In my first job, I made a comment that I'd love to be a farmer. A coworker overheard me and set me straight. He said he had to work to make enough money to be a farmer. I often say they have one of the hardest jobs in the world. God bless them and the weather they are at the mercy to.

Your Farmer's Wife quilt makes me want to go back to the book and do some blocks I haven't tried yet.

It appears you and your mother have quite a competition going. I'd like to see the winner of that - I'm sure it would be hard to choose.

Yep, Nancy, it's a piece of cake and even two farms means NOTHING to us! LOL
I love the painting, Heidi, it's beautiful.
Oh Saskia's turning round now, it's too late already. We don't care, do we?!
And yes, I will think of Bep too but won't use my lovely poncho's for the same purpose, oh no!!! (giggle, die Bep!)

Take care & hope to see you soon!
Hugs, Carolien

Lovely colours in your quilt blocks, which are all coming together so beautifully....can't wait to see the finished quilt when it is completed. Yes indeed, your countryside photo takes one back to sweet memories of a life that we imagine as most serene...more simplified than our busy lives today...

Peaceful moments of stitching to you, my friend.

Heidi, your quilt is so pretty! I can't wait to see the red one you make for your Mom. Will you do a slide show of all the other ladies' quilts when they are finished? I'd love to see the different interpretations.

Your quilting is so beautiful, Heidi. You truly are an artist.

As for me, I'm enjoying the hard work of country living. I find it suits me remarkably well, at least for now. :D

Wow, those new blocks look beautiful! Although they seem to be made of a lot of little fabrics...difficult?
It is fun to see the quilt 'growing' and see how different every quilt turns out to be.

Fantastic quilt Heidi - I love the different blocks you are using, and the colours are fantastic. Is this a pattern you are following, or just something you made up? I can't remember...

Your quilt top is looking so pretty - and that painting - well, it's everyone's dream of life in the countryside. The reality is the mud and the cold and the precarious nature of the livelihood. Of course, one day of sunshine and apple blossoms makes it all worthwhile!
