Fun finishes...

Sometimes you have those fun finishes that you just put off for far too long. This is one of them. I first mentioned this piece back on my old blog NeedleNecessities in January of 2007. I just found this old piece among my things and decided that it was time to update it.

I had stitched this piece before I even immigrated to Holland so well over 23 years ago. I framed it in a cheap and ugly frame when I moved over here to use in my kitchen. I thought it would make a cute double sided pinkeep. You can find my step by step photo instructions on my old blog StitchingTogether. Pinkeeps are not difficult to make and a great way to showcase your stitching. I have a tray in my quilt studio with my pinkeeps which I go through and pull out seasonal ones to decorate with in my home.

So my first stitching UFO for this year has taken this drab piece and turned it into...

...this fun and decorative one.

It's wonderful...I've got a few pieces tucked away myself that I should pull out and do something with! I stitched alot in the 80's and come to think of it...when we had first moved to The Netherlands!

Oh, that is darling and there is your little salt box I brought you. They gave them out at a county fair one year. I love this finish, it is much cuter than in the frame. That was good too though.
Love you, Mom

The finish looks great! Does it count for your list of 6 UFO's to finish? I hope so, that would be 2 then ...

Hugs, Carolien

Such a nice pinkeep, much better than when it was framed. Is the pattern still available ?

Years ago my mother a Morton Salt very similar to this one. I even
have a set of 4 Morton Salt mugs,
each with a different girl and year. Your pinkeep turned out great!

I absolutely LOVE the Morton salt girl and have tried to make a chart for her myself. (Haven't yet stitched it so I don't know if I was successful or not.) Your finshing is delightful! :D

Heidi,
This is beautiful. I love this sweet little girl struggling with her umbrella. It's so evocative of the 1960's Enid Blyton days :>) What a clever way to reinvent it. I have two double sided pinkeeps and they really are lovely.
Another thing I adore are these old advertising jingles. they are so catchy :>)
Warm hugs Angela

When I took out my round box of Morton salt this morning, Heidi, I immediately thought of you.

From now on, to me you will be the Morton salt girl and no longer Mary Poppins. (wink)

I love your needlebook.

How absolutely adorable Heidi. That reminds me I have a few old pieces which could be put to new use.

I've been wanting to email you (even have a draft) but don't have your email address on my laptop and the rest hasn't arrived. Please email me at megratdataviadotcom and I'll get it off to you.

hugs, Margaret

I am one for pinkeeps ! It turns the most insignificant project into a pretty item. Although in this case, the framed pattern looked nice enough !
