Meaningful quilt project for 2010....

If you are anything like me, you have a list of projects whether to quilt or stitch that you really want to do some day. I decided that January 1st, 2010 was that some day! One of the quilts that I have admired when seeing antique versions of them is the pattern known as Job's Troubles or Rocky Road To Kansas, the later name often show with a string quilt version. It has 4 inset corners and is better done by hand so I kept putting off working on this one. I needed time to do it.

So what is that old saying? There is no time like the present. After becoming ill in 2009 and still continuing with a struggle to "get things right" in 2010, I think there really is no time like the present! This quilt's name took on a new meaning for me when I went through my health struggles. I am grateful that I have been able to continue to push on in life and have enjoyed my needle and thread even more if that is possible. So I take lessons from Job and keep the faith while I stitch this pretty patchwork pattern together.

I have chosen a cream fabric as my background and only have a half meter of it so when it is used up my quilt size has been determined. I am using reproduction fabrics in reds and pinks against browns and tans. It is a combination I also love in seeing old quilts.

I used the random number generator and it choose comment number 6 which is Elly. Congratulations Elly! I will have your scrap package ready when I see you for our quilt group's Wednesday evening get together.

"Take your needle, my child, and work at your pattern; it will come out a rose by and by. Life is like that - one stitch at a time taken patiently and the pattern will come out all right like the embroidery."

The little hand piecing project is adorable! I think my friend is making something similiar but the blocks were called hummingbird for whatever reason. Wishing you a wonderful 2010 with many, many stitches!

I love your new project Heidi and doing it be hand means you can sit downstairs and relax by your woodstove. I love the colours you have chosen.

I to wish you the very best of health for 2010 and all your problems with your health will be resolved successfully.

Say hello to the girls on Wednesday for me.

Very nice Heidi. I am happy to hear that Elly won the giveaway, she deserves it. I will be waiting to see the finish.
It is very cold here today. Ten was the high and now it is colder. No new snow though, so that is good. Just need to put on the wool.
Love Mom

Dear Heidi - I found your blog by way of Pondside...
your hand piecing looks so lovely - those inset seams can be tricky and yours look just perfect!
As quilters, we are blessed to have many projects in the works and never lacking for something to do. Enjoy this time and hoping 2010 is a good year for you.

This is a beautiful pattern and an even more beautiful thought. Since you do it by hand mostly I wouldn't really be able to do a quilt like this. I have too much trouble with hand work any more. I guess that's why I gravitated toward machine sewing and quilting. You certainly did have a rough year last year and I hope this year they are able to get control of some of these medical issues you've had. Your attitude inspires me so much.

This new project is just adorable. I love the colours of the fabrics and the name of the pattern. I have a weakness for all sorts of stars in quilting patterns, and I know that the first big quilt I'll be making after my retirement will be one with stars.
It must be such a delight to work on this quilt.
