I am out of my comfort zone on this one! I do not normally use bright colors in my quilts but I am using the Martha's Vineyard charm packs from Susan Branch this time which are bright 1930s style colors with a plain white background. Plain white is all I had in my stash and I am only using stash for this mini quilt. I had to add a few bright fabrics from my stash as there were a few white charms with slashes of color that would not work well in this design. The piecing instructions were posted yesterday so I am off to start on it...
Now all this cutting is just the right moment to share a very special poem that a special friend wrote for me recently. It was due to my having a chronic airways infection due to an allergy. My quilting is literally making me sick but do you think I have a mind to stop? NO WAY! I hope you will enjoy this poem as much as I do and thank you so very much Angela for writing it. You are now officially published. *grins*
Alas, my hobby's blocked my nose To find the answer I supposeI should cut out my cutting outFor that's my problem there's no doubtI've watched my piles of fabric teeterAs I have added just one more metreEach one with fibres and with fluffAnd little filament-y stuffIs this what's causing me to sneezeAnd making my poor breathing wheezeExcuse my coughing, oh, don't mutterJust pass me please my rotary cutter!My hexagons give so much pleasureMy little dolly quilts I treasureMy samplers and my stitchalongI can't believe these can be wrong.Without my quilting I would pineAnd all day long I'd whinge and whineI might be fitter but my moodMight cause me to be rather rude.I see I need a remedyTo rid this pesky allergyThe spell is just a simple taskI need to wear a surgeons mask.No need for counting up to threeIn moonlight and beneath a treeGive me a mask and I can playWith quilts and beaded fobs all day.Dedicated to a devoted quilter :-)Angela xx

What a clever poem...it made me smile. The allergies are definitely not cute and I hope you are okay...they can be so troublesome. However there is nothing like starting a new project to but a smile in your heart and a skip in your step..grins..the new little quilt will be beautiful and cheery and I am anxious to see how it all comes together. I think your little quilt will look smashing done in those fabrics. They are so fresh and retro-looking. I know you have really stepped out of your comfort zone with these colors but who knows...you just might fall in love with the look when it's done.
Maybe you can decorate your new guest/Mom's room in your new house around this quilt. You just never know.

I'm the same way, not too many brights, though I have a ton of Mary Englebriet fabrics I want to use for a quilt at some point, probably for my youngest granddaughter, but I absolutely love the balance you have in those fabrics and cannot wait to see what becomes of them.

I love the Susan Branch fabrics. Like you, these are not my usual range of colours but these are so full of lively energy you can almost imagine them quilting themselves...haha! Get a move on, they're saying. We're raring to go...haha!
