My Christmas Cat!

As I mentioned, I have another finish to show you. I finished the second cat sampler. It is S. Claws by The Goode Huswife.

This ended up being my own version of the design. I had many comments about the fun of changing the cat's colors to Dagi. Thank you so much! I worried about this as I received an email in the past from a designer about my changing a color on her design. I just hope that if the designer of The Goode Huswife ever sees this blog that she will never take offence to this. I am loving making my wall dedicated to my sweet Dagi from her beautiful designs!

I used the recommended colors (DMC 400, 680, 3051, 3053) for the most part only changing the cat to DMC 3032 and 3781 once again. I left out the filling in of the patchwork motifs under the cat as I like the fact the Ohio Star pattern stood out more this way.

Fabric: Zweigart Autumn Fields 28 count stitched 2/2

Dagi really is my Christmas cat by the way. His birthday is on December 23rd so he is like a little present under the Christmas tree.

Je kan kleuren toch aanpassen aan je eigen smaak, wat een ontwerpster er ook van mag vinden!?
Helemaal leuk je eigen kat zo in een lijstje ;-)
Groetjes Anita.

Hi:
The English proverb is really true in Dagi's case. He rules.
I love the second sampler for Dagi. I just know he also will approve it.
It should be cute seeing them all finished and together.
Love you, Mom

You are a terrible enabler, Heidi. As soon as I saw your stitched Dagi last week I had to have these designs... and so I ordered them.... ooooh, naughty... *grin*... Thank you!! Now I see yours so beautifully finished, I can wait for mine to get here!

I believe that Anne (aka The Goode Huswife) is quite relaxed about adapting her patterns - as most designers are. That other designer who gave you such a hard time had other problems, obviously, to react as she did. Anyway, I LOVE this - I bet Dagi is loving all the attention. Now my cats are going to start getting all demanding on me, LOL!

Very cute finish! Love your "kitty" in the design too...

Oh I do love this sampler! It is beautiful. I fear I will have to start stitching cats as well now! I don't see how any designer could be mad if you switched colors or even tweaked the design to suit you. That is what makes art art! I finished another of your ornaments and it is on my blog! Thanks Heidi!!

Very nice piece! I cannot imagine anyone taking offense if a stitcher personalizes a design. I must cause offense all the time! ;)

Heidi i love your christmas cat!
I think it's a great idea you have of doing a cat wall. I shall look forward to seeing more cats.

can't beleive a designer objected to you changing colours in a design! (perhaps the colours you chose where better than the orinional ;-)

Take care x

Wow , just read your post about the designer complaining that you changed a colour. So what ! In my mind all charts are free to be adapted when you have purchased them and the fact that you want to spend your money on them and your time stitching them is a great compliment.
If I was selling designs , I'd love to see how other people changed and interpreted the charts , it's all part of the fun and opens it up for more people to appreciate.

Beautiful job, looking forward to seeing the next one.

It is so pretty! You are really making me think I need to stitch again but with all else I have little time. This is so darned delightful and fun...love your version of Dagi! I'm sorry that in the past a designer got upset with you about changing it to make it YOURS...geez..the thought of making it YOURS!!!!! LOL

Your finish is pretty and I love the frame you chose for it.

I looked back to see what you were referring to regarding a designer who left a comment on a design you stitched. I'm not familiar with the design you stitched but am sorry the designer felt she needed to leave an unpleasant comment regarding some color changes you made. It would have been nice if she had kept her comment to herself and just appreciated the fact that you stitched her design and blogged about it.

Another great finish, Heidi! I love how this design combines your kitty, your cross stitching, and your quilting. It's a beautiful piece and will make a great addition to Dagi's wall.

What a cute finish! I like the way the Ohio stars stand out too. And the cat - Dagi look alike is great.

Great finish! love the color changes. Your cat wall is filling up quickly.

What a wonderful design!
I think its lovely the way you are changing the cats to look like Dagi. I truly can't understand why any designer would object to a stitcher changing the colours, I do it all the time.

Just double checked the original sampler design you had the email from the designer about. It is a reproduction, so she must have changed the colours from the original herself!

Jantine said...

I really love it. I can't see why you can't change the colors of a design if you have bought it... But let's not start this discussion again ;-).

Cannot hear the music to dance to at the moment Heidi but believe me I am dancing in my head with you!
Oh love that puddy tat - the colours are just so --you--.
Look forward to the next one!!
Hugs as always

Absolutely lovely Heidi...as ever.

Love your finish and how your personalized it, Heidi! I'm probably in big trouble with designers because I'm always tweeking a color or a part of the design. I would think they would just be happy to have the "free advertising" that posting a finish of one of their designs offers...

Well Heidi, you've started the proverbial snowball rolling down the hill. Now we're going to look forward to seeing Dagi samplers for Valentine's Day, St. Pat's, 4th of July, Halloween, etc. etc.

I just love this one. The design just "speaks to me". Another beautiful finish and I LOVE the frame.

Another really lovely kitty sampler. This one is so festive and I do like your idea of making the Ohio stars stand out by not stitching in the filling. Dagi is going to become a very famous cat, I see :>)

I think your idea is such a good one !
I want to thank you too, because it's by reading your blog, I discovered last year the "Louisa May Alcott challenge". I read "Little Women " and "The lost summer" and enjoyed them so much !

Beautiful piece, I think your changes look great. I'm new to your blog so had not previously read about your problem when changing another design and went back and read your previous post. Needless to say (but I'll say it anyway) it's n appalling way for a designer to behave. The changes we make to designs is what makes it so much fun to look at other people's work. Keep up the great work

Such a wonderful little treasure. I love the way you changed the colours of the cat in order to represent Dagi.

Dagi's sampleer is adorable! Good for you for personalizing it--it is YOUR stitching and should be how YOU like it!

Aaaah, i love you're cat samplers, there are so cute! Hope you're having a great time, love and a big american hug! xxx Sofia

So cute! I have these charts and you are inspiring me to start them soon. Do you think you will use the same linen for all of them?

Teri said...

Adorable finish! I love the way you are customizing these kitties with Dagi's colors. Just hope my two cats don't see your post and start asking me where "their" personalized pieces are!

I agree Heidi you are an enabler ;)
I to will have to stitch that design...your finish is purrfect :)

I am behind on my blog reading. Catching up now and I had to say that your finish is just beautiful. I love how you personalized the cat. If I were the designer I would be flattered. Just beautiful.
